When we started Reynolds Family Farms, we knew we wanted to build more than a collection of animals. We wanted to create a place where our children could learn responsibility, entrepreneurship, and the value of caring for something bigger than themselves.

Why Nigerian Dwarf Goats in Idaho Make Great Family Goats

Nigerian Dwarf goats in Idaho are becoming increasingly popular with families, hobby farms, and homesteads because of their huge personalities. They're friendly, curious, intelligent, and their smaller size makes them much easier for families and children to handle than many larger breeds.

For a homeschool family like ours, that was exactly what we were looking for.

Our children aren't just watching us care for the animals—they're learning alongside us every day.

Incredible Milk from a Small Package

One of the things that first attracted us to Nigerian Dwarf goats was their milk.

Although they're a miniature breed, they produce rich, creamy milk with one of the highest butterfat contents of any dairy goat breed. That makes it wonderful for drinking, making cheese, yogurt, butter, ice cream, and even homemade soaps.

It's impressive how much these little goats can contribute to a family homestead.

This week we welcomed three beautiful Nigerian Dwarf does to Reynolds Family Farms:

Brave, our little Fourth of July baby who has already begun her journey as a bottle baby.

Roxy, a sweet and friendly doe who settled in quickly and has been exploring every corner of her new home.

Moxie, a calm and curious doe who may be expecting kids in the future, making this an especially exciting new chapter for our family.

Watching each of them settle into the farm has already been one of the highlights of our summer.

Looking Ahead

Our hope is that these goats become much more than livestock.

They'll become teachers for our children, companions around the farm, and eventually the foundation of a healthy Nigerian Dwarf herd here in Nampa, Idaho.

We'll be sharing updates as they grow, introducing each goat individually, documenting bottle feedings, and—if all goes well—celebrating the arrival of our first goat kids in the months ahead.
